The Supreme Council for Romania of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite was founded (on June 20th, 1881) by Sovereign Grand Commander Constantin MOROIU, 33°.
On December 18th, 1921, Ion PANGAL, 33° as Sovereign Grand Commander received the Recognition Patent of the Supreme Council for France (Supreme Conseil pour la France), from its Sovereign Grand Commander, Most Powerful Brother Rene RAYMOND, 33°. In 1925, the Supreme Council for Romania was recognized by the Supreme Council of U.S. Southern Jurisdiction, led by Most Powerful Brother John Henry COWELS, 33°. Until 1944, the Sovereign Grand Commander of Romania was Ion PANGAL, 33°. He was followed for a period of seven years (1944 - 1951), by Most Powerful Brother Michel NORADUNGHIAN, 33°.
The Supreme Council for Romania took the path of exile, into the Valley of France, where French Brethren offered shelter from the political atrocities perpetrated in Romania. Ion PANGAL, 33° led the Supreme Council for Romania, as Sovereign Grand Commander in exile until 1964. He is followed, in the period 1964 - 1970 by Sovereign Grand Commander Constantin BELU, 33°.
On June 7th, 1969, the Supreme Council for France, led at the time by Brother Henri BITTARD, 33° reaffirmed the Supreme Council for Romania - SCR's Recognition Patent in exile.
In 1993, the Supreme Council chose, after nearly half a century of exile a new Sovereign Grand Commander in the person of Brother Dan Amadeo LAZARESCU, 33°; elected on Romanian soil, in the Grand Jurisdiction of Romania.
Since 1997, the leadership of the Supreme Council for Romania is taken by Most Powerful Brother Andre Pierre SZAKVARY, 33°. Just a year after he was elected as head of the Supreme Council for Romania, the Sovereign Grand Commander received recognition of the legitimacy of the origin of the SCR, on May 12th, 1998, within the framework of the XLII European Conference. The Supreme Council for Romania is recognized as the sole successor in direct line of the Supreme Council for Romania founded in 1881.
